Career Development Award (CDA)
The Career Development Award is an ANZBMS Early Career Investigator Committee (ECIC) initiative, established in 2026, to provide financial and mentoring support to ECIs, who have experienced limited prior funding success and career disruptions. The purpose is to assist these ECRs to advance their research and career development.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Early career researcher who relative to opportunity are < 5 years post PhD completion (NHMRC Relative to Opportunity Policy)
- Have not received any prior category 1 funding as CIA
- Have received less than $50,000 AUD in grant funding to date as CIA
Inclusions of Award:
- Mentorship by a mid-senior career ANZBMS researcher matched to clinical/science background wherever possible (two meetings with an assigned mentor over a 12-month period)
- Free registration to the ANZBMS ASM in the year the award is awarded
- Opportunity to chair an oral session at ANZBMS ASM in the same year
- 1-year free ANZBMS membership
- $1,000 AUD
Selection Criteria:
Applications will be evaluated based on the below criteria by a panel of grant reviewers agreed upon by ANZBMS Council:
- Consideration of career disruptions experienced
- How the CDA will be used to advance the applicant’s research and/or career development
- Potential impact of the CDA for the applicant’s research and/or career development goals and aspirations.
- Career success over the past 5 years (2-page CV and top 5 publications in 5 years relative to opportunity)
