The ANZAC Research Institute is seeking to appoint an outstanding scientist to the position of Group Leader in its successful Bone Research Program.

Applicants should be early to mid career, independent researchers with a competitive publication track record in the area of bone research or related areas, particularly endocrinology, and outstanding scientific credentials. Successful candidates will demonstrate a research agenda that fits within the strategic research directions of the Bone Research Program, with an emphasis (but not limited to) osteoblast and osteoclast biology, bone cancer and metabolic bone disease (for more details on our research program see the ANZAC Researach Institute website: www.anzac.edu.au).

The primary appointment will be at the level of a Senior Scientist, with an appropriate academic title to be negotiated according to seniority and academic achievements. The position is full time and will initially be for one (1) year, with further employment depending on available funding and need.

About The ANZAC Research Institute
Opened in 2000, the ANZAC Research Institute conducts world-leading research in a variety of areas with a common theme of ageing and health. On the grounds of Concord Hospital and affiliated with University of Sydney, the Institute’s nine research groups conduct basic, clinical and public health research into neurogenetics and neurodegenerative diseases; male reproductive health; effects of aging on the liver function and cardiovascular disease; cancer pharmacology; the biology of blood vessels; and bone biology. The ANZAC Research Institute now provides a research home for over 100 scientists and 30 graduate students undertaking research training who earn nearly $6 million of external grant-based funding income and publish around 200 scientific papers per year.

About Bone Research Program
The Bone Research Program pursues research in Basic Bone Biology, Applied Bone Metabolism and Clinical Research in Metabolic Bone Disease. Our group has a strong interest in osteoblast biology, bone cancer and the development and evaluation of transgenic models of bone disease. A number of exciting and competitive projects are presently under way, currently funded by six, partly collaborative NHMRC and a large number of other substantial grants. We enjoy productive collaborations with national and international research groups as well as industry partners. Our plan is to further develop a comprehensive research program that makes use of the many opportunities provided by a multidisciplinary institution such as the ANZAC Research Institute, and of our existing research network. Our goal is to extend our research efforts to areas relevant to bone biology and disease, and to foster scientific excellence.

Minimum requirements

  • PhD in an appropriate discipline
  • At least 3 years postdoctoral research experience
  • Australian or NZ citizenship or Visa to work in Australia
