Professor Hiroshi TakayanagiProfessor of Tokyo Medical and Dental University and a leading scientist in the field of molecular understanding of bone and immune systems. In 2000, he published a seminal paper in Nature on T-cell-mediated regulation of osteoclastogenesis, which opened a new field called osteoimmunology. Since then, he has focused on the mechanism of bone destruction in autoimmune arthritis and intracellular signalling of bone cells. In particular, he tremendously contributed to studies on the mechanism of osteoclast differentiation by discovering the master transcription factor NFATc1 and ITAM-associated costimulatory receptors. With more than 15 publications in Nature Medicine, he has established the field of osteoimmunology and provided new insight into the future therapeutic strategies against various bone and immune diseases. |
