Following on from the 6th year of the successful ANZBMS Clinical Bone Densitometry Course, this advanced workshop is designed to inform clinicians and scientists of the latest developments in quantitative bone imaging, as applied in both the basic-science and ‘bench-to-bedside’ settings. Though the emphasis is on applications of advanced quantitative computer tomography (CT), the impacts of other emerging modalities (e.g.; advanced ultrasound, synchrotron light source) will also be presented. The workshop will empower those attending to answer the key question ‘which techniques are suitable and accessible for my research? ’
Topics covered will include principles of CT; advanced techniques & technologies of quantitative CT (including pQCT, uCT & Xtreme CT); feature analysis of bone images (morphometric quantitation, high-resolution determination of extrinsic & intrinsic properties); a new paradigm for quantitative ultrasound; the Imaging & Medical Beamline of the Australian Synchrotron; and a survivor’s guide to animal ethics. Applications will include; micro-biomechanical properties; tissue engineering & regenerative medicine; fracture prediction in children; clinical osteoporosis prediction; QCT-based vertebroplasty assessment; quantitative CT radiation dosimetry, and more.
Workshop speakers are active experts in their fields. They include Ralph Müller (Institute for Biomechanics, ETH, Zurich); Roger Zebaze (Austin Health & Univ. Melb.), Ian Parkinson (Univ. of Adelaide), Damian Myers (Univ. of Melb. & Austr. Synchrotron), Christian Langton
(QUT) & Tim Kuchel (IMVS & LARIF, Adelaide). This workshop will be limited in numbers, leaving participants with ample opportunity to interact with the presenters.
The 2010 Program Organising Committee welcomes you to include this workshop in your registration.
