The following major airlines operate direct services into Cairns International Airport:


Transfers between Cairns Airport and Port Douglas

Transfers can be arranged for guests at the Sheraton Mirage and Radisson Treetops ($32.00 per person each way to be charged to individual hotel account). Send your flight details (flight numbers, arrival and departure times) to the Meeting Manager by 1 September.

Transport between Radisson Treetops and Sheraton Mirage

A free Acacia shuttle bus will operate between 07:15 – 08:15 each morning between the Radisson Treetops and Sheraton Mirage. Passengers must wear name badges.

Two local shuttle bus companies pick up and drop off from the front of the Radisson Treetops and do a loop round to the Marina then Port Douglas town and back again. They run approximately every 15mins. The first bus is at 07:00 hrs and the last is at 23:45 hrs (timetable subject to change). Cost is $2.50 or $3.00 per person each way. They do not stop in at the Sheraton however they pick up and drop off at the Sunbird Centre right next to the Sheraton.

Travel Insurance

Registration fees do not include insurance of any kind. The Organising Committee and the Meeting Secretariat will not take any responsibility for any delegate ’s failure to obtain appropriate insurance cover.

The IOF and ANZBMS do not accept any liability for damages of any nature sustained by participants or their accompanying persons or loss of or damage to their personal property as a result of the meeting or related events.

Climate

The climate in October offers warm to hot days with balmy nights.

Time Zone

Port Douglas is on Eastern Standard Time (EST) which is 10 hours after Greenich Mean Time (GMT +10 hrs).

Language

English is the official language of the conference. All presentations will be in English, no simultaneous translation services will be available.

Currency

Australian currency is decimal (dollars and cents). Notes come in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100, while coins are produced in 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 denominations.

Banks are open from 9.30am – 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9.30am – 5.00pm on Fridays. Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are readily available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Currency exchange facilities are available at city banks, major hotels, Thomas Cook offices, American Express offices, Cairns International Airport and Foreign Currency Exchange.

Most major credit cards (Visa, Bankcard, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club) are widely accepted throughout the State, but not generally at small grocery shops.

Tipping is not necessary in Australia.

Electricity

Power point or electrical outletThe electrical current in Australia is 240/250 volts AC 50Hz. The Australian three-pin power outlet (as pictured) is different from many countries, so an adaptor may be needed. Multi-voltage appliances and adaptors are readily available in department stores and at many luggage shops.
