Abstract Submission

Deadline for Abstract Submission: 19 March 2003

Please follow these instructions for abstract submissions:

  • Only original scientific information relevant to some aspect of bone and mineral metabolism is acceptable. As far as possible this should not have been published or presented at another major meeting. If previously presented, authors must indicate where and when.
  • References can be cited by number in the text and listed at the end of the abstract in the following form: authors, year, journal, volume number, page number.
  • Abbreviations should be those used in scientific journals: when not in general use they should be defined when first used in the text. Authors’ abbreviations are not acceptable in the title. Generic names of drugs should be used and followed by a reference number to detail the proprietary equivalent and origin. Graphical representation of data cannot be used.
  • Type the author names (underlining the presenting author), affiliations and main body of text so that it fits entirely within the defined rectangle (16.1 cm down x 12.2 cm across). CAPITALISE the entire title. Use 12 point Times New Roman only. Organise the body of the abstract in the following order: statement of purpose, statement of methods, summary of results and conclusions. Do not use subtitles, eg, methods, results, etc.

Sample Abstract:

A SAMPLE ABSTRACT FOR THE ANZBMS MEETING

New Hope Hospital, Adelaide, Australia

This is a sample abstract. It must fit a space which is 16.1 cm high x 12.2 cm wide. Organise the body of the abstract in the following order: statement of purpose, statement of methods, summary of results and conclusions. Do not use sub-titles. Justify text on both sides.

Your abstract can have more than one paragraph. Graphical representation of data CANNOT be used. The recommended font is 12 point Times Roman. Italics, Bold or Underline etc. are allowed. Use italics for all foreign words.

Your abstract must have a result unless it is an invited contribution (symposium, plenary etc.) in which case it can review previously published or presented work.

It is the responsibility of the submitting author to ensure that:

  • Abstracts are constructed as described above. When the abstract is completed, name the abstract file BM followed by the first five letters of the Surname of the first author followed by first initial. For example, ‘BMCITIZJ.doc’ for an abstract with the first author being Jane Citizen. For multiple abstract submissions change the first initial to numeral (eg, BMCITIZJ.doc, BMCITIZ2.doc).
  • Abstracts follow sizing instructions as listed above. Abstracts that do not comply with these criteria will be rejected.
  • Abstracts reach the Conference Secretariat by the closing date.
  • A completed Abstract Submission Form containing the following information is attached to each abstract.
    1. Name of Presenter
    2. Full contact address for Presenter
    3. Email address for Presenter
    4. Contact telephone and fax number for Presenter
    5. Abstract title and abstract file name (e.g. BMCit2.doc)
    6. Preference for Oral or Poster Presentation
    7. Whether you will be using Power Point presentation
    8. Whether you wish to apply for the Christopher and Margie NordinYoung Investigator Poster Award
    9. Whether you wish to apply for the Roger Melick Young Investigator Award (Oral Presentations only)
    10. Whether you wish to apply for an ANZBMS Outstanding Abstract Award (available to ANZBMS members ONLY).
    11. Whether you wish to apply for an ANZBMS travel grant (available to ANZBMS members ONLY).

Download the Abstract Submission form below and send it with your email as an attachment. Please note that this email form MUST be attached to EACH electronic abstract submission. Failure to attach the email form will result in your electronic abstract being returned to you.

Please adhere to the published closing date for abstract submission.
Abstracts received after 19 March 2003 cannot be considered for inclusion in the Programme.

Please do not assume your abstract has been received until you receive email confirmation. If you have not received electronic confirmation within 72 hours, please contact the ANZBMS Conference Secretariat.
